Introduction to the Web: This class assumes little or no computer experience, just a willingness to explore the Internet. We will learn how to use the browser Microsoft's Internet Explorer, how to navigate webpages, and how to efficiently search for specific websites and topics of interest. This class will be part lecture and part "open clinic," with a chance to practice and ask questions. Led by Chris.

Foundation Directory Online Database: This database is a powerful tool for the nonprofit community, providing access to 90,000+ U.S. foundations, grantmaking public charities, and corporate givers, with links to over 7,000 grantmaker and corporate websites and IRS 990-PF and 990 returns. This class serves as an orientation to the database, including how to search, tips and tricks, and additional information about the resources available at the Foundation Center website. This class is limited to representatives of area nonprofit and grassroots organizations. Led by Donna.

Introduction to Email: This two-part class walks you through setting-up a free email account; how to log-in, compose and send messages; as well as how to open and read received messages. The class is intended for those who do not have an email account. Time permitting, the class will also demonstrate how to add and open attachments. Familiarity with the web and computer basics is required . The Web Beyond Google: Did you know that there are millions of webpages beyond Google? This class explores web resources available to you as a Massachusetts resident, but which cannot be found by using conventional search engines like Google or Bing. Find obituary notices, local news, health information, biographical sketches and more in this hands-on workshop. Familiarity with basic web searching, and how to use a keyboard and mouse is required. Led by Guest instructor Shirley Keech.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel: Excel is a great software program for managing household and small business budgets and creating address books, membership lists, and much more. This class will cover how to create spreadsheets, use formulas, and enter data. Basic knowledge of computer basics, especially Microsoft programs, is strongly recommended. Led by Anna.

 

 

One-on-one training for seniors at Forest Park, East Forest Park, Pine Point and Sixteen Acres

Half-hour sessions are available with trained volunteers who will help you get started with the wide world of computers at various branches throughout the city! This service is intended for beginners who need one-on-one help becoming more comfortable with the mouse, keyboard, and Windows desktop environment.

Computer 101Classes are held in the computer lab located on the ground level at 220 State St, unless otherwise noted. Use the State Street entrance. All classes are free and open to the general public.
