This class will review the grant proposal writing process for non-profit organizations by addressing key questions such as: What are the key components of a proposal to a foundation? Who should sign a grant request? How should the proposal be packaged? Should you contact a funder if your proposal is turned down? and more. Please note this is not a hands-on computer class.

The workshop is an overview of the Foundation Directory Online database, a powerful tool for the nonprofit community, providing access to 90,000+ U.S. foundations, grant making public charities, and corporate givers, with links to over 7,000 grant maker and corporate websites and IRS 990-PF and 990 returns. The workshop will review tips and tricks for searching and how to best use the Databases interface. An introduction to the Foundation Center's website—another powerful resource for grantmakers—will also be covered. Reserved seating is limited to representatives of area nonprofit and grassroots organizations.
Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center
The Springfield City Library is a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center. Formerly known as the Western Mass. Funding Resource Center hosted by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, the Cooperating Collection is now housed at the Central Library, 220 State Street.
As a member of this nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies, the Springfield City Library provides visitors with free public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Center's electronic databases, The Foundation Directory Online and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online. The fully searchable database includes detailed profiles of all active U.S. foundations, as well as an extensive file of recent grants awarded by the nation's top funders.
Representatives of nonprofit and grassroots organizations and other patrons are welcome to use the print collection and databases in the main reference area (Wellman Hall) at the Central Library at any time during our open hours. Librarians are available for assistance. Wireless access for laptop computers is available. No preliminary training is required.

In/Sight combines the Foundation Center's rich data on grantmakers and their grants with familiar Google maps to tell the story of philanthropy. Choosing from a wide range of customization options, users can quickly create maps that reveal patterns of giving and funding relationships as never before. Plus, users can overlay grant data with their choice of over 150 demographic, socio-economic, and other data sets to create compelling visual portraits showing where philanthropy has made an impact and where opportunities exist to fill critical needs.
Associated Grant Makers of Massachusetts
Access to the extensive resources of AGM, a regional association of grant makers, both foundations and corporations with giving programs, serving in, or making grants in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. including Grant Makers and Nonprofit Directories, RFPs, KnowledgeBase, Consultants & Resources Database, and more.
